One step at a time for redone college

Don't be fooled by the quick demolition of the Murray Hall women's dormitory at Grenville Christian College.

Removing the 1960s-era building, ill-suited to the property's future as a residential community, was a relatively easy step to take, Paul Sluyter told The Recorder and Times during a recent on-site interview.

The president and 50% shareholder in Sluyter-Isaac Investments of Ottawa, which purchased the central core of the campus last December, said transforming it into a development he calls Brock's Landing is a different matter.

Patience will be required, he said. "We're taking a phased approach. We want to do it right."

The community of Brocks Landing is located 1km west of the village of Maitland, and 4km east of the City of Brockville along County Road 2 (Old Highway 2). The stately institution and winged dormitories of the former private boarding school sits well back from the road, behind a privacy screen of mature trees and expansive lawn. With a panoramic view of the scenic St. Lawrence River to the south and a natural cover of wooded area to the north-east, complete with walking trails, the 26 acre site ensures a tranquil environment for residents.
